Cornas Les Chailles, 2014, Domaine Alain Voge
Critic Scores: 92 Points Wine Spectator, 16.5 Points Jancis Robinson
Domaine Alain Voge is a French wine producer from the northern Rhône Valley. It is based in the Saint-Peray appellation where it grows Marsanne, and also grows Syrah in Cornas and Saint-Joseph.
The domaine was established by fourth-generation winemaker Alain Voge, who began working in his father's vineyards in 1958. Voge inherited several vineyards from his family, and then in the 1980s began expanding on them.
Voge now farms 6.5 hectares (16 acres) of 30-year-old Syrah vines in Cornas. The fruit here is hand-harvested and destemmed before fermentation, which takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Voge also has 4ha (10 acres) of vineyards in Saint-Peray planted mostly to Marsanne with a small amount of Roussanne.
The portfolio includes several wines under the Cornas and Saint-Peray appellations, as well as a single Saint-Joseph. Alain Voge also makes a Marsanne-based sparkling wine, and a red Côtes du Rhône.
