Chemin du Belvedere Blanc, Cave du Tain, 2020 12.5%
Again, like the red this wine is labelled as a humble Vin de France but is so much more than that in the glass. It's pure luscious 100% Marsanne from the top northern Rhône producer, Cave de Tain, a cellar described by critic, Jeb Dunnuck, as "one of the finest co-ops in the world."
And once again the grapes come from four parcel from top appellations of Crozes Hermitage, Cornas and including a parcel from the highly prestigious Hermitage appellation. And the little know grape behind these famous village names is the surprisingly less well known Marsanne, but make no mistake this grape variety can produce wines that are sublime; with tropical fruit, lemon and blossom notes all wrapped up in a luscious mouthfilling finish with a mineral edge.
Very open nose with notes of melon and pear along with denser tropical fruit coming through alongside hints of honeysuckle, marzipan and citrus zest. The refined palate is silky and generous with a mouthfilling luscious texture and leading to a very long finish, with an echo of citrus and great acidity that makes you want to dive straight back in. Typical of Marsanne this is a great food wine that will work well with roast pork and crackling partially; and also delightful with richer fish and seafood dishes!
Both these wines offer extraordinary value for such majestic and famous names, simply unrivalled at this price. We think this is a clever and revolutionary way to make fine wine quality for a humble price point. I urge you to take this opportunity to order this fabulous white wine, – and I promise you that the red is equally as good!
